Where the Óbidos Lagoon meets the Atlantic, Foz do Arelho offers the best of both worlds. The lagoon side has calm, warm water perfect for families with young children. The ocean side delivers impressive waves for surfers. Between the two, a scenic promenade is lined with excellent seafood restaurants. The dramatic cliffs at the northern end provide stunning sunset viewpoints. In summer, vibrant beach bars add a social atmosphere.

2. São Martinho do Porto — The Safe Bay (20 min)

Often called the most beautiful bay in Portugal, São Martinho do Porto is a near-perfect semicircular bay with incredibly calm, shallow water. It's the ultimate family beach — children can splash safely while parents relax. The cute town behind the beach has charming cafés and ice cream shops. The water is warmer here than on the open coast.

Tucked beside the golf resort of the same name, Praia del Rey is a long, wide stretch of golden sand that never feels crowded. Backed by dunes and pine forest, it offers a wild, natural beauty.
